It’s that time of year again, the time most of us haven’t really been waiting for and will passively pay attention to – the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees are in.
This year, as with the previous three, the public gets to vote on who will get in, along with the typical cadre of shadowy figures who decide these sort of things.
The list includes multi-nominee heavy hitters, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, NWA and Yes, as well as first-timers: Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan. Here’s to hoping The Smiths and NIN both get in so we can all get excited about a joint performance that will inevitably flare out because Trent Reznor and Morrissey are brilliant, beautiful lunatics.
Or, who knows, maybe they’ll become best friends. When promoting The Fragile in 1999, Reznor did say the following to USA Today,
“I’m envious of a band that sounds like a band, I always wished I had the structure of The Cure or The Smiths.”
