Adele’s New Single is Selfish and Huge

This time she’s upset the guy she broke up with won’t accept her apology.

As heroes tend to do, Adele has returned just when we needed her the most.  That may not be true, exactly, but regardless, she’s here and she’s belting to the stars once again.  Yesterday Adele released the first single off her new album 25, which, missing a golden opportunity, comes out on November, 20th. The track is called “Hello” and this time Adele’s pain seems to stem from the fact that a former flame -Tristan Wilds from The Wire- has moved on after Adele broke his heart.  She just wants to apologize, she “must’ve called 1000 times” she’s “sorry for breaking your heart, but it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore.”

It’s hard to not see how blatantly selfish the whole premise of this song is, Adele, you broke up with him.  He’s moved on, give the guy a break.  Now you’re trying to bring him back in again, just at the point when he finally put that whole painful ordeal behind him.  Adele, leave Michael Lee alone!

To Adele’s credit she addresses the selfishness of the hook in the second verse, “it’s so typical of me to talk about myself, I’m sorry.”  So, she knows.  Regardless of its lyrical content, this hook is HUGE and the track will surely dominate terrestrial radio, and all other pop music outlets for the foreseeable future.  Its been four years since Adele’s last album, 21 was released and she was catapulted onto the world stage, and if this single is any indication, 25 should prove to be worth the wait.

I wonder how Lionel Richie feels about it.
